We’ve long been fans of Birds of Unusual Vitality, Melbourne’s globetrotting home to interviews and photographs of some of the brightest minds in specialty coffee. The publisher at BUV, Eileen Kenny, is a working barista at Market Lane and has served as Coffee Common volunteer. We first learned about her work back in 2011 via this feature on DCILY, and have since featured BUV several times on Sprudge.

Exciting news today then, as Birds of Unusual Vitality are preparing releasing their first printed book, a collaboration with the folks at Everyday Coffee and Dawn Press. The book will feature Ms. Kenny’s candid interviews and lush photography with specialty coffee luminaries Tim Varney, Jason Scheltus, Emily Oak, Dan Yee, Peter Giuliano, and Paul Geshos.

The book’s launch is happening on Wednesday, May 22nd at Everyday Coffee (33 Johnston Street, Collingwood) starting at 7pm. Copies of the book will be available for sale, as well as a limited edition run of risograph prints taken from throughout the “Birds” web portfolio. This event is free, and there will be drinks and cheese on hand for guests. Everyday Coffee will also be the setting for our WBC Come Down Cupping, happening on May 28th – more details available here.

Last, we’re incredibly excited to announce that Eileen Kenny will be joining the Sprudge.com coverage team at WBC, alongside Harald Voyle of Oslo’s Kaffikaze. We can’t wait to share this work with you! And rest assured, if you’re unable to travel to Melbourne for the WBC this year, we’re delighted to take you there with us in spirit and content.
