The 2014 World AeroPress Championship season is rapidly approaching its grand finale, with just a few more national events left to go before the WAC finals event in Rimini, Italy, happening Monday June 9th. Unaffiliated with the larger SCAA-, SCAE-, and WCE-sanctioned coffee events, the World AeroPress Championship is a “grassroots” international coffee competition, founded by a bunch of Norwegians in 2008 as a bit of a joke. Past winners have hailed from Norway, Poland, and Denmark, but the competition has been dominated since 2011 by the nation of Belgium, who’ve fielded three consecutive world champions.
These events, it should be noted, are a riotous amount of fun, as our recap & recipes from the recent US AeroPress Championship makes quite clear. They’ve also become a hotbed for the intrepid intersection of coffee & graphic design, as evidenced by the many outstanding posters designed for various national and regional AeroPress competitions around the world in 2014.
Why is this where the coolest poster design is happening in coffee, bar none? Incredible art has become part of the AeroPress competition culture, with exemplary work being produced by designers around the world.
Here’s 14 of our favorite posters from the 2014 AeroPress Championship season, culled from the authoritative World AeroPress Championship official website. The next WAC qualifier happens Friday, May 17th in Melbourne, where we will be DJing as well as launching the first book from Sprudge Publishing, Eileen P. Kenny’s Birds of Unusual Vitality Volume 2.
Fun things just seem to happen around these events.
