Chicago Roasters Workshop
October 24 @ 5:30 pm - 11:00 pm
On October 24th Big Shoulders Coffee will host another Chicago Roasters Workshop! This Workshop is a friendly competition that was designed for coffee roasters to come together and exchange knowledge and roast coffee…blindly. (Think latte art throwdown but for roasters). One by one, they receive a green coffee sample with zero information about it. They can take 5-10 minutes to interpret the roast however they’d like, then they roast it! Everyone goes home with samples of each contestant’s roast and they are asked to cup the sample within the next week and choose a “winner”.
Only the host, Tim Coonan, knows what the coffee is and he keeps each roast a secret by labeling them with numbers/letters. When the votes are cast, the coffee is revealed, the top three roasts are named, and everyone’s roast profiles are shared for an open discussion. We have been using a Stronghold S7 Pro for these competitions.
The public is invited to join and observe, but if roasters want to compete they are encouraged to reach out to the email included in the details below.
Sponsored by Alarmist Brewing and Roastronix.
