It’s been two weeks since an unprecedented cold front hit Texas, wreaking havoc on power and water supplies across the state. Texas’s unpreparedness for the storm have been highly publicized—you probably know more about the inner workings of the Texas power grid and ERCOT than you ever really wanted to—but as the snow began to dissipate, so too did the coverage. Now the recovery efforts can begin in earnest.

With a pandemic already hamstringing cafes worldwide, the winter storm had a compound effect on Texas coffee professionals; between lost wages and the potential for sky-high electric bills, Texas coffee professionals find themselves stretched even thinner than before. Enter Go Fund Bean. Teaming up with Oatly, GFB is raising funds to help adversely affected coffee professionals across the state of Texas, and they are taking aid applications now.

The fundraising process is already underway, with Go Fund Bean raisng funds for hourly coffee workers in the Lone Star State affect by the winter storm. To assist in the efforts and to incentivize more individuals to get involved, Oatly has agreed to match a portion of donations. Complete fundraising details and a call to action to get involved can be found via Go Fund Bean’s Flip Cause page.

Relief applications for hourly Texas coffee workers open today, March 1st, and can be found here. GFB will continue to take new applications until all funds are dispersed. For more information, visit the Texas Hourly Coffee Worker Relief donation page.
