Congratulations to Michael Harwood of Carrboro Coffee (Chapel Hill), your new 2011 SERBC Champion! Rounding out the top 3 are Dave Delchamps of 1000 Faces (Athens, GA) and Jeremy Sterner of Peregrine Espresso (Washington DC).

Also at the SERBC: round two of the first annual Brewers Cup! Zach Neuman of Cafe Helios in Raleigh took top honors for his V60 Counter Culture Coffee/Bonmac Pro Series Dripper routine, followed by Jason Dominy of Batdorf and Bronson in Atlanta, who competed using a light-roast Colombia Estrella on a Clever Dripper. Rounding out the top three was, yet again, Dave Delchamps of 1000 Faces, competing using a Bee House.

Congratulations to Michael, Zach and all the competitors at this year’s SERBC!

Who do we have to bribe to get lists of finalists? Everyone’s coverage barely lists the top three from each competition, brewer’s cup and barista competition. It would be great if usbaristachampionship.org would post results as they happen in each region…

Not to be fussy, but Zach Neuman won the Brewers Cup with a Counter Culture Coffee/Bonmac Pro Series Dripper, NOT with a V60. I point this out because we’ve worked hard to custom-design this dripper to extract far better than a V60. So, the equipment is important, but of course it doesn’t mean anything without an expert barista like Zach. So, congratulations Zach and Michael!

Peter, that was my error. I told them (in error) it was a V60. I was paying more attention to watching him, and listening, then exactly which pourover he used, I guess. Either way, good job on him and his custom-designed Counter Culture Bonmac Pro brewer. He did brew a nice cup. (Since I got second place, I wonder if I could get Batdorf & Bronson to help me create a custom-designed Clever Dripper…. hmmmmm….. :-) )

Looking closer at the Bonmac Pro, it looks an awful lot like the Bee House dripper, which also has two holes. What are the differences between the two?

        Hey Jason!

The two-holeness of the CCC Pro Series Bonmac is indeed similar to a Beehouse. However, the holes on the CCC Pro are somewhat larger than a Beehouse, and the ridges more pronounced and spaced differently. We found that this particular configuration is the most forgiving and consistently got the most delicious extractions.

Very cool, thanks! With all the pourovers out there, it’s good to know the differences.
