Blue Bottle is quickening its pace on the path to Los Angeles coffee domination. Within less than six months of their Bradbury location opening, we now find a much simpler, quaint space in the trendy Los Feliz neighborhood of East Hollywood, the eighth addition to the chain of cafes spread throughout the city.

Situated on a sunny block of Hillhurst Avenue, the spot opened in late April and feels keenly focused on serving its neighborhood, set mere blocks away from houses and apartments in the area yet also centrally located on a large stretch of other cafes, restaurants and boutiques. An extra special treat for Angelenos include an actual parking lot right next to the cafรฉโ€”and if you live in this city, you know that parking is everything.

If Blue Bottle’s Bradbury Building cafe Downtown is all soaring ceilings and expansive spaces, the Los Feliz Blue Bottle contrasts with minimalism and functionality shot through with modernist architecture touches ร  la Le Corbusier. The interior has grey marble counters, white walls and cabinets, maple wood tables and stools, and simple lighting fixtures. The space itself feels compact for Blue Bottle, with just a few tables and a modest back patio as if youโ€™re in someoneโ€™s backyard, a hideaway in the bustle of Los Feliz.

Like the space, the food and coffee options here are minimalist: house pastries and fresh waffles, paired with espresso drinks from a La Marzocco FB80 and brewed coffee on the Blue Bottle Dripper. Blue Bottle’s flagship Hayes Valley espresso blend is on offer, but in a departure for their LA stores, the Dandy espresso blendโ€”an LA market mainstay brought over in the Handsome Coffee acquisitionโ€”is replaced with seasonally rotating single origin espressos. Offerings from Burundi and Rwanda will be available in months to come.

Speaking of months to come, Blue Bottle’s next round of LA openings take them to the Fairfax/Melrose district, as well as Robertson/Melrose and a coming Playa Vista location near LAX. Beyond LA there’s whispers of upcoming Miami, Boston, and Washington D.C. locations through 2018. Here on a sleepy block of fast-chaging Los Feliz this cafe feels like a slice of the neighborhood, but make no mistake: this new little shop from Blue Bottle is part of something much bigger.
