And then there were four. After two weeks of hot- (and cold-) brewed contests, we have reached the Final Four of the Sprudge Ultimate Coffee Bracket Challenge. From a field of 32 coffee beverages, the list has been whittled down to just four, and as we’ve seen in the previous rounds, it’s still very much anyone’s game.
For the next round, we’re going to be doing things a little bit different. In addition to posting the matchups to our Instagram stories, we’re also going to put them on Twitter. Savvy interneteurs will note that this allows folks to vote multiple times, to which we say, YES! Vote all the ways, stuff those ballot boxes, expend all resources available to you to root on your favorite squad!
And now for some #bracketsprology analysis: Yes, the 1 seed Espresso has all but cakewalked its way through the first three rounds and 20 seed Batch Brew was the smart money underdog pick to go deep, but who saw V60 toppling 2 seed Cappuccino (and handily at that)? And Chemex, the 11 seed, making it this far? I certainly didn’t see that coming and I’m one of the biggest Chemex apologists out there. If you were to tell me the Chemex lost out to the Breve, Mocha, or Flat Whiteโthe teams it beat to make it this farโI would have nodded in knowing resignation. But here we are, V60 versus Chemex, locking horns to become the last pour-over standing, a true blue brew battle for the ages. That there is only one espresso-based drink left, frankly I find to be mind-blowing. Thus is the enigmatic wonder that is the Ultimate Coffee Bracket.
