Here we are, a brand-new year, 2022. And for those seeking felicity in duplicate, there is Double Happiness, a limited edition coffee blend from the Bay Area’s Equator Coffees made in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew.
Owner and executive chef of Mister Jiu’s in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Chef Jew creates contemporary Chinese-American cuisine, earning him the aforementioned one Michelin star, a 2020 James Beard nomination for Best Chef: California, as well as the chance to share his recipes as the author of a cookbook. For his collaboration coffee, Chef Jew chose a single-origin wash processed Ethiopian coffee from Odo Shakiso in the Guji Zone. True to an heirloom variety Ethiopian coffee, Double Happiness—named after the Chinese symbol 囍 meaning joy and happiness—has notes of black tea, stone fruit, and graham cracker.
And more than just being delicious, Double Happiness is a coffee that is doing some good. $1 of each bag purchased will be donated to Cut Fruit Collective, “a grassroots non-profit organization based in the SF Bay Area” that “[creates] art for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community care – supporting artists, amplifying voices, and investing in vulnerable communities.”
