Here we are, a brand-new year, 2022. Gone is the baggage of 2021; it’s a clean slate full of infinite possibilities to make this trip around the sun better than the last—which is maybe a low bar, but still. This is the year we choose happiness. Or, if you’re feeling feisty, those happinesses that are, like, double happinesses, you know. (APPROVED!)

And for those seeking felicity in duplicate, there is Double Happiness, a limited edition coffee blend from the Bay Area’s Equator Coffees made in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew.

Owner and executive chef of Mister Jiu’s in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Chef Jew creates contemporary Chinese-American cuisine, earning him the aforementioned one Michelin star, a 2020 James Beard nomination for Best Chef: California, as well as the chance to share his recipes as the author of a cookbook. For his collaboration coffee, Chef Jew chose a single-origin wash processed Ethiopian coffee from Odo Shakiso in the Guji Zone. True to an heirloom variety Ethiopian coffee, Double Happiness—named after the Chinese symbol meaning joy and happiness—has notes of black tea, stone fruit, and graham cracker.

And more than just being delicious, Double Happiness is a coffee that is doing some good. $1 of each bag purchased will be donated to Cut Fruit Collective, “a grassroots non-profit organization based in the SF Bay Area” that “[creates] art for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community care – supporting artists, amplifying voices, and investing in vulnerable communities.”

Good coffee for you that does good for others, it’s a collaboration living up to its name. Double Happiness by Chef Brandon Jew and Equator Coffees retails for $18.50 per 120z bag and is available for purchase via Equator’s official website. For more information visit the Double Happiness page.
