Sac Town! Pour the squiggles and then back down. This Tuesday, February 13th, Temple Coffee Roasters will be host a latte art throwdown. “What’s the big deal?” you say. “Throwdowns are a dime a dozen,” you say. Well for one this is on Tuesday, not the normal Thursday, making it more of a true TNT than those normal ThNTs. But more importantly, 100% of the proceeds go toward the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA).

Representing 22 chapters across five continents, the IWCA’s mission is “to empower women in the international coffee community to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives; and to encourage and recognize the participation of women in all aspects of the coffee industry.” But doing this, especially on the grand scale at which the IWCA is operating, requires funds. And for a non-profit, that normally means donations.

But Sacramentalists can donate while getting free pizza, beer, and good times, which sounds like a pretty sweet deal. For those wanting to throw down—and who wouldn’t want to considering where the money goes—entry fees are $10. The event is free for spectators, but you should still donate, because you know why.

For the latte arteests, fear not, you skills will not go unrewarded. There will be prizes for the first, second, and third, all donated from the gracious sponsors: Marco, Barista Magazine, notNeutral, Mahlkönig, and Baratza.

It all goes down Tuesday Temple Coffee Roasters S St Warehouse (2827 S St, Sacramento, CA 95816-7320). Sign-ups start at 6:00pm with the first dollop of microfoam to hit the crema promptly at 7:00pm. For more information, visit the Temple Coffee x IWCA Throwdown Facebook event page. So go celebrate women in coffee and have a damn good time doing it.
