Just in time for next month’s World Barista Championship festivities, Vienna’s first-ever cat cafe is open for business, with 6 different kitties available for snuggling. Read more from the less-snuggly folks at Fox News (via AP waver wire):

Five cats roam freely in “Cafe Neko,” ready to be stroked and cuddled โ€” and when they are tired of all the attention, they can disappear into their own space or climb high above the tables, out of reach of the guests.

“Cafe Neko” opened Thursday. Owner Alexander Thuer tells the Austria Press Agency that the idea to combine coffee with cats comes from his Japanese wife, Takako Ishimitsu, who says such establishments are common in Asia โ€” but rare in Europe

There’s more. The following has been translated from Vienna.at:

While it is customary in Japan, however, to pay in addition to the drinks by the hour for a stay in cat cafรฉ, you pay only the drinks in the cafe Neko. In addition to Japanese tea and juices from Austria’s farmers are also home-made cakes and light snacks on the menu. On the other hand, are cuddly map Moritz, Luca, Haru, Momo, Sonia and Thomas. The six cats are from the Viennese animal shelter and are regarded as particularly friendly and playful.

The cafe Neko (1st, Blumenstockgasse 5) from Friday 4 Open May 10 to 20 day clock.

We can’t wait to spend time at Cafe Neko while in Vienna for the 2012 World Barista Championship.
