Now seems like as good a time as any to remind you that โ€œstampโ€ is an anagram for โ€œtampsโ€, a fact I presume the United States Postal Serviceย has decided to celebrate with the release of their brand new series of Espresso Drinks stamps.

We love stamps here at Sprudge. When the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy tried to singlehandedly destroy the postal service in a feeble, sycophantic attempt to keep the country from mail-in voting during a pandemic, we actually tried to make our own stamps. We ultimately failed because that same Postmaster General decided to no longer allow people to make custom stamps because, again, he was actively cutting off viable revenue streams for the USPS to make them appear ineffective.

While DeJoy unfortunately still has a jobโ€”not but two days ago Now This published the article Why Does Louis DeJoy Still Have A Job?โ€”the USPS has at least done us all a solid by releasing a brand new set of Espresso Drinks stamps last Friday, April 9th. The 55ยข Forever stamp comes in books of 20 with four different designs: espresso, cappuccino, latte, and mocha. Designed by Art Director Greg Breeding with original artwork by Terry Allen, the stamps are modeled after โ€œ1920s and 1930s advertising postersโ€ with โ€œart deco-inspired lettering above and below each enticing cup,โ€ per the USPS.

And despite the century-old design motif, it is actually modern coffee, specifically specialty coffee, that inspired the new stamp set. From USPS:

Espresso drinking in the United States is at an all-time high. With the growing popularity of artisanal coffee shops, extensive research on the roaster and brewing process, and continued innovation in machinery to make the perfect cup, specialty coffee is better than it has ever been. When it comes to espresso, most Americans rely on a barista working at a coffeehouse to carefully craft their specialty drink, but at-home espresso machines are also growing in popularity. Whether a routine part of getting going in the morning or a reason to gather socially at a local cafe, drinking beverages made with espresso has become increasingly trendy.

The USPS will only be putting out a veryย limited run of the Espresso Drinks stamps, just 200 million or so. You can pick up a book of 20 for $11 via the USPS official website.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the USPS is the lifeblood of small businesses, like basically every specialty coffee company, and provides an essential service for any modern society. America needs a thriving postal service. Even the Constitution demands it! So buy stamps. Sure, you’d prefer a Buzzy and Spesh stamp or even a Decaf Gives Me Life stamp for adding a little extra flair to your pen pal correspondence, but like an Americano when you desperately want a filter coffee, these Espresso Drinks stamps will do in a pinch.
