Day one of Seattle CoffeeFest is behind us. We rocked the Hario booth, we took a lot of notes, and Gabi Campanario (Seattle Times / UrbanSketchers.com) created the greatest illustration of us known to man. The whole thing was a real scene. Here’s some notes:

Highlights from the showroom floor included awesome booths from EspressoParts, La Marzocco, Hario, Barista School / Watertown Coffee, Mercanta, and Evol Burritos (free burritos, srsly). Tons of cool stuff from Roustabout Inc. at their booth, where you can also have your picture taken with a full-sized cutout of the Hario cone geisha.

Party at the Arabica Lounge (right next to the Robusta Room) was strange and bizarre and mildly awesome. Definitely not a coffee scene, in fact, couldn’t really have had anything less to do with coffee, but briefly fun none the less. Someone labeled the vibe as “upper crust punk”, and that’s not far off. Our bottle of Alagash White was nice.

Trabant Trainwreck was a good time all around. Sprudge remembered to do a little bit of reporting, and so, congratulations to Christopher Nicely Abel Alameda Hassenfeffer Inc. 85 for winning the Trabant Trainwreck rum-soaked brain jello mold milk-off. Christopher defeated a field of 24 competitors in his pursuit of victory. This was ostensibly a costume party, and so there were some choice costumes walking around, including two members of Team Zissou (is this retro now?), a fantastic lady Swamp Thing, and Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction (post-overdose, including syringe). We met the kids from FreePourRadio.com, who seemed very bright eyed and bushy about their recent podcast launch. Not to be sentimental, but it is our one year anniversary, and they reminded us of last year’s Sprudge launch at CoffeeFest 2009.

Overheard at CoffeeFest Day One:

“I tried to find fishnets, but I couldn’t find them in my size.”

“Welcome to Jo-Jo’s world”

“Ah, $20? No, it’s a napkin.”

q: “What are you gonna be for Halloween?”

a: “I dunno, a slut?”

“Well, at least this party is living up to its name. #trainwreck”
