Welcome to Podcast Week on Sprudge! The Sprudge Podcast Network is the coffee world’s largest, first, and frankly best audio hub dedicated to original podcast content. Podcast Week continues, and today we’re highlighting the newest show on the network.

At just two episodes so far, Ever Meister’s new podcast series, In Good Taste, has already made serious waves in the specialty coffee industry. The focus of this show is on the ethics of coffee marketing, which is a broad, complicated field of inquiry, and Meister is unafraid to ask critical questions aboutย what it means to sell coffee here in 2021.

In Good Taste Lede

โ€œMy goal here is to use my training as a journalist to create a platform where we can share our thoughts and concerns,โ€ explains Meister, โ€œand also our motivations for making the world of specialty coffee marketing a better place. Each episode will focus on a different area of the work, and I’ll interview folks to get as broad a perspective as possible.โ€

In the first episode, Meister scratches the surface and asks a number of coffee professionals involved in marketing questions about their backgrounds, the ethical codes they follow, and the resources they use in their work.

In the second episode, Meister dives deeper into one of the most complicated issues in modern coffee marketing today: the use of photography.ย This episodeย explores the ethical implications of using photographs in coffee marketing and asks, among other things, โ€œWhat story are the pictures that we share of coffee farmers telling?โ€

In the episode, Meister speaks with several coffee producers across Latin America and Africa with varied opinions on the use of photography in coffee marketing. The featured interviewee isย Vava Angwenyi, the founder of Vava Coffee Limited in Kenya, and also co-founder and director of Gente Del Futuro in Tanzania, Colombia, and Kenya. Angwenyi authored Coffee, Milk, Blood in 2020 and explains what’s special about it is that โ€œthe producer in Africa is depicted in a more dignified manner, in a manner that takes us beyond the washing station, beyond the coffee cherry, beyond the dirty hands and the dirty feet that are processing the coffee.โ€
