โ€œAll in oneโ€ portable coffee makers are generally anything but. Sure they can brew at a momentโ€™s notice, but theyโ€™ll generally require you to have some way of grinding the beansโ€”or lugging around pre-ground coffee. But thereโ€™s a new option on the market that looks to make good on the promise of being โ€œall in one.โ€ The Atonce (stylized ATONCE) by Lavida Coffee is a five in one portable coffee maker allows you to grind, pour, brew, store, drink, and keep your coffee heated, all in a compact design, and itโ€™s live on Kickstarter now.

Weighing just 700g in total, the Atonceโ€™s award winning design has everything you need (we think) in order to brew wherever you go. Included in the kit is a rechargeable battery-powered ceramic burr grinder. Though limited on it settingsโ€”only five grind size options in totalโ€”the Lavida has been optimized for 15g worth of coffee per brew. With the coffee ground, users can then make a pour-over via the dual filter mesh screen conical brew device. Lavida has ingeniously designed the coffee cup to double as a kettle of sorts, which the Kickstarter states โ€œflawlessly simulates the water flow and speed of a gooseneck kettle pouring.โ€

With the 230ml total brew complete, the coffee cup then offers up to eight hours of heat preservation thanks to the โ€œdouble wall vacuum insulated mug.โ€ The Atonce also include a coffee storing chamber capable of holding 45g of whole bean coffee, or three individual brewโ€™s worth. All in a 3.35โ€ x 3.35โ€ x 8.9โ€ design.

With 10 days left on the campaign, the Atonce has received nearly $60,000 in funding, smashing its $1,000 goal. Would-be backers can snag an Atonce of their own for just $99, 43% off the MSRP. Rewards are expected to ship out as early as next month.

The only real question I have before feeling confident in branding the Atonce a true all-in-one is this: how does the water get heated for brewing? This is the last, and frankly most difficult, piece of the puzzle, and it is one that no brewerโ€”save for the JetBoilโ€”has really been able to crack. But still, if Lavidaโ€™s compact coffee brewer lives up to the hype, the Atonce may be one of the best portable coffee brewers to hit the market in a while.
