Here Are The Five New Coffee Champions From World Of Coffee Milan

Over the weekend, the coffee industry descended upon Milan, Italy for World of Coffee 2022, the Specialty Coffee Association’s headline global trade show. Per the SCA, a record 11,000+ attendees from around 140 countries came to Milan for the three-day event showing off the best and newest the industry has to offer. And if that wasn’t excitement enough, WoC Milan also crowned five new World Coffee Champions.

World of Coffee 2022 was a bit of a return to form for the World Coffee Championships. Due to the lingering pandemic, four of the five competitions—all but the World Cup Tasters—have not seated a new champion since 2019. But that changed on Saturday, as Coffee in Good Spirits, Cup Tasters, Latte Art, Roasting, and Cezve/Ibrik all crowned new World’s Bests.

As with most all coffee competitions at this level, there was a lot of intrigue surrounding the events, but perhaps none more than that of Agnieszka Rojewska, the Polish wunder-barista who is solidifying her title as World’s Most Decorated Barista Competitor. Her list of accolades heading into the weekend was already impressive: three-time Polish Barista Champion, four-time Polish Latte Art Champion, the first ever female World Barista Champion, Coffee Masters Champion, World Latte Art Championship Finalist. Then on Saturday she added two more bullet points to the already lengthy résumé: World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion and World Cezve/Ibrik Championship Finalist.

With seven World competitions in total, we’re not likely to ever see anyone complete the WCC EGOT (or BLRCBCC as it were), but with two already under her belt and two other Finals appearances, Rojewska has to be the odds-on favorite to do it.

With these five championships now past, the specialty coffee world now turns its eyes to Melbourne, where the World Barista Champion and World Brewers Cup Champion will be decided later this year in September.
