There aren’t that many 20th anniversaries to celebrate in an average person’s life. Most things don’t last for twenty years, and when they do, well, it’s time to celebrate. Like gently opening a bottle of finely aged wine, twenty years is a remarkable vintage, and nothing else tastes quite as sweet.ย Which is why we’re excited to share with you news about the 20th anniversary celebration happening all year long for our friends and longtime (like, since 2010) partners at Counter Culture Coffee, a quality-focused specialty coffee company headquartered in Durham, North Carolina.
Counter Culture sold itsย first pound of beans all the way back in 1995.ย Here in 2015, the company isย celebrating twenty years in business with a variety of events throughout the year, none bigger than their 20th Anniversary Party event on April 18th from 3pmโ7pm in Durham’s Central Park.ย Durhamites are invited to enjoy rocking music, a bunch of tasty coffee, food, hangs in the park, and plenty of activities for the kids (because when your company has been around for 20 years, that means lots of kids).
Musical guests include a cadre of Triangle regional favorites, including a solo set from Merge Records and Superchunk founder Mac McCaughan, Merge Records stable standouts The Love Language, rootsy Trekky Records crooners Loamland, and The Human Eyes, a retro pop outfit fronted by Counter Culture’s own Thomas Costello.
The solo set from McCaughan is particularly exciting for those who consider themselves fans of hooky power pop and influential independent record labels, such as your Sprudge editors. The Love Language hasย been glowingly reviewed a few times over the years by Pitchfork. The band’sย 2013 single, “Calm Down”, features a freaky, raving astronaut and jangly, spacey textures:
This all goes down on April 18th at The Pavilion at Durham Central Park, located at 501 Foster Street in Durham, North Carolina. ย The event is free and you are totally invited.
