SUMMARY:Matéria Viva | Living Matter
DESCRIPTION:Matéria Viva (Living Matter) is the first solo exhibition by Brazilian\, Lisbon-based painter Bianca Castro\, curated by Joshua Strydom\, on view at Hello\, Kristof from 19 September to 19 October 2026. The opening night is Saturday 19 September\, 18h to 21h\, free entry\, with the artist and curator present and live music from the Jaime Almeida jazz trio. \nThe show brings together 10 to 15 paintings made with natural pigments the artist extracts herself: coffee\, black tea\, matcha\, hibiscus\, beetroot and many others. Fluid acrylics and pastels complement some of the works. It is a series focused on the potential and performance of natural pigments\, where colour itself is alive and matter is an active collaborator. \nCastro paints nature from the micro to the macro\, the shapes that repeat across scales\, from galaxies to river beds to cities seen from above. Her pigments emerge from chemical reactions\, the same kind of processes her paintings portray. \n“I paint how patterns emerge in nature across scales; the same forms that appear in cells\, gardens and galaxies. I call it biomorphic geometric abstraction\,” says Castro. \nThe exhibition comes as an initiative from Hello\, Kristof itself\, opening its doors to Lisbon’s art circuit and taking on a new role in supporting the city’s community and artists. \nHello\, Kristof\, Rua de S.
