SUMMARY:Photography at Origin: A Benefit for Grounds for Health
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at The Crown presents a showing of 9 photographers living or working in coffee producing countries. \nBorn from concerns around representation\, and documentation of coffee production\, this exhibition shows work from notable photographers from Ethiopia\, Peru\, Indonesia\, Kenya\, India\, Mexico\, and beyond. There’s no paucity of excellent photographers around the world in this day and age\, so we put together a list and published it to our website in the hopes that the coffee industry would take the chance to work directly with photographers already at origin. \nThis show is an extension of that commitment\, and most artists showing have agreed to donate some or all of the proceeds of the sales of their work to Grounds for Health\, a women’s health nonprofit working most notably in Ethiopia: \nHilina Abebe \nMahe Elipe \nViviana Peretti \nNyimas Laula \nJames Maina \nJimena Rodriguez Romani \nPutu Sayoga \nHarsha Vadlamani \nOctavio Vargas \nThis show is open to the public until July 2026\, and all photos on display are for sale. \nCome through The Crown at 2523 Broadway in Oakland to check out the show!

SUMMARY:Best of Congo Cooperatives USBC Cupping
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the Friday of USBC to taste the top 10+ coffees from the 2026 Best of Congo Cooperatives competition! \nThe 2026 Best of Congo Cooperatives coffee competition will be held June 15 and judged by an international jury at 4 locations across the world. That same week\, on the Friday of the US Barista Championships\, Huckleberry and Somebody People will host a cupping of the top 10 (or more!) coffees from the competition\, ahead of an auction held at the end of summer. This will be an informal cupping\, intended for potential buyers\, roasters\, and other members of the coffee community interested in tasting some of the best coffees from Congo! \nThe cupping is free\, but please rsvp via the Eventbrite page.
