Have you ever chewed on a piece of wintergreen gum right after having coffee? It’s… not excellent. Unlike coffee and so many other things, these are two great tastes that don’t go great together. Nonetheless you can try this flavor combination for yourself thanks to the new Life’s Gum Coffee, a minty gum with an ooey gooey coffee center.

Per Yahoo Finance, Life’s Gum Coffee is the newest line from Liquid Core Gum Company, whose products—as you may have guessed from the name—all contain a “liquid core” in the middle. Much like having a sip of your favorite brew before popping a tic tac, Life’s Gum Coffee starts of with “rich coffee flavor” before it “transitions magically” to a minty flavor. Marketed as an alternative pick-me-up to a second or third cup of joe, Life’s Gum Coffee gooey center is “infused with real coffee and caffeine derived from coffee beans,” per Liquid Core COO Scott Schaible. Each piece is said to contain 80mg of caffeine—a little less than your average cup of coffee.

According to Liquid Core CEO and founder Troy Widgery, the gum is meant to be more than just a coffee replacement.

People have a relationship with coffee that we understand and respect. We engineered our coffee formula to see them through on those occasions when chewing is smarter than drinking… We wanted to provide that feeling of comfort and smooth energy, while giving you fresh breath and cleaning your teeth. The brain-boosting benefits are noticeable.

Those brain-boosting benefits of chewing, per the Liquid Core website, include: increased focus, enhanced concentration, enhanced memory recall, and improved relaxation.

And you can apparently decaf your Life’s Gum Coffee. According to Yahoo, all you need to do is ”squeeze the piece and empty the liquid center,” which sounds gross, but hey, it’ll get you decaf.

Along with providing minty fresh breath—admittedly something coffee can’t provide and in fact works contrary to—Life’s Gum Coffee claims to improve oral health thanks to xylitol, a sugar-free sweetener that it has more of “than any other chewing gum in the world,” which I guess is a good thing?

Frankly, I can’t get past the idea of someone actively wanting to combine the flavor of coffee with a minty freshness. And sure, a coffee julep when properly balanced can tip-toe expertly atop that fine line, but that’s the exception and not the rule. More often than not, that pairing comes with an “oh shit, I shouldn’t have popped in that gum before heading to the cafe.” For me, it’s a no, but maybe I’m wrong. It’s been know to happen. You can find out for yourself by picking up a five-pack of Life’s Gum Coffee for $7.49 from the Liquid Core website.
