Halloween & Hurricanes: Hurricane Sandy had a big impact on the east coast this week, but the worst is definitely over, and we’ve been heartened to watch how folks across the region have come together to support each other during scary times. Sometimes it’s the small things that matter: Stumptown Manhattan provided cell phone charging stations for their electricity-less customers, and baristas at both locations of Washington, D.C.โs Peregrine braved the howling winds to stay open and caffeinate the masses.
Meanwhile in Atlantic City, the Northeast Regional Barista Competition was put to a halt. Originally scheduled to take place this weekend, the SCAA considered it in the best interest of all NERBC attendees to reschedule the event for another date, which will be announced right here on Sprudge.com as soon as itโs confirmed.
New York City is slowly but surely getting back on its feet in the aftermath of the superstorm, and what better way to recover and celebrate than by going on a coffee crawl? We dug it: On a less spooktacular note, Sprudge.comโs sixth public cupping party took place at Intelligentsiaโs 1871 coffee bar last (last) week, and roughly 80 people gathered together to enjoy quite the selection of top-notch Kenyan coffees from Kansas City to Copenhagen.
