Trenchtown Stock: Jamaica Profit On Blue Mountain, Rohan Marley?
NYT elder Florence Fabricant reports on Bob Marley’s son, Rohan, currently cashing in on Jamaica Blue Mountain:
Rohan Marley got into the coffee business more than 10 years ago. “A Rasta from Jamaica called offering land,” he said. Since then, Mr. Marley, a son of the reggae legend Bob Marley, has overcome financial and bureaucratic hurdles to acquire the estate, produce 100 percent Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee and start selling it. (Other Marley coffees, not from Jamaica, have been available for nearly a year.) Years ago, Blue Mountain had been prized and costly, but its reputation was spoiled by blends that skimped on the Blue Mountain, which Jamaica no longer allows. Marley’s Blue Mountain is a fairly light roast, floral, chocolatey and earthy, with bright acidity.
Rohan was judging some event or something at USBC Anaheim, but we didn’t get a chance to catch him. If you read this, Rohan, drop us a line on the Sprudge phone (1-567-CRINKLY). We’d love to chat.
