Slay On, Slayer: Salon.com Kind of Tries to Talk About Coffee

In an unfortunately titled piece “Baristas Gone Wild”, Salon.com writer Thomas Rogers daintily dips his pinkie toe in into the world of Specialty Coffee, and largely comes out unscathed. He offers us a brief history of “the wave”, gives props to Blue Bottle and Ninth Street Espresso, shouts out innovation at Slayer, and essentially throws up his hands in exasperation of why exactly anyone cares so much about coffee in the first place. Perhaps Salon.com can seek out a talented writer (or team of writers) whose priorities go beyond “my coffee is hot, tastes good, and will keep me from falling asleep on the subway in the morning” to proffer the next article on Coffee and Tea. Your Sprudge.com editors can be reached via contact form on this website.

I’ve guessing that I’m not the only person who has no clue what most of that means, but that’s just fine with me. The coffee connoisseurs and the hipster baristas will be able to taste the difference, and can argue about “waves” and “pressure” all they want.
