New York City’s newest espresso shop, the Bikini Bar Cafe, is now open for business in Manhattan at 148c Duane Street. Originally a surf shop and furniture emporium trading in retro-tiki stylings, Bikini Bar Cafe is the work of Danielle Glasky, 2010 Northeast Regional Barista Competition champ and a longtime Cafe Grumpy employee. She’s serving Counter Culture Coffee at her new cafe space, starting off with the roaster’s Espresso Apollo blend and hand brewed offerings including Aida’s Grand Reserve of El Salvador, Papua New Guinea Baroida,ย and Ethiopia Haru (last seen helping Jonathan Bonchak win the SE Brewers Cup). The cafe’s menu features Ronnybrook dairy, and will soon expand to feature raw food and an organic juice bar.

Ms. Glasky is the sole barista at her new 1500 sq. foot cafe in Tribeca, a space she shares with owner Aileen Oser – a “blonde bombshell from Hawaii” who maintains a chic design studio in the back of 148c Duane, where she designs couture lingerie and swimwear. Ms. Oser is a former Betsey Johnson design contractor, and after more than two decades of sewing for other people will be designing her own bikinis. She is the longtime co-owner of this Tribeca space, which she maintained previously with her late husband Stuart Robert Smith, the man responsible for Bikini Bar & Cafe’s “freaking gorgeous” interior (as described by Ms. Glasky).

Coffee service is available via an E-51ย Faema E61 Legend espresso machine and Beehouse ceramic drippers. Bikini Bar & Cafe is open Mon-Fri 10am to 6pm, with extended hours scheduled for after the holiday season.
