Pasadena, California:

Here on historic Colorado Avenue, Sprudge.com is live from Intelligentsia’s Extraordinary Coffee Workshop – an event that defies easy categorization, and demands full attention. Exporters, agronomists, millers and farmers from Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia have gathered together here for a 3 day exploration of the relationship between producers, roasters and consumers. It’s the truly massive scale of Intelligentsia’ Direct Trade model, compressed into a single moment in time and space.

This is the third such event Intelligentsia has hosted in as many years, but the first to be held in the United States. Today’s events include presentations from the producers themselves, a visit to the Intelli roastworks, calibration cuppings, and a chance for producers from around the world to try the end result of their relationship with Intelligentsia. Right now, in a fascinating mind-meld of supply chain immediacy, baristas from Silver Lake and Venice are pulling shots of Guatemala Finca La Maravilla for Charles Muriuki, the president of the Gikanda Farmers Association in Kenya.

We’ve been doing this for a long time, so please, believe us when we say that this event is utterly unique and special. More from Intelli’s ECW event in Los Angeles throughout the day, only on Sprudge.com.
