The story we broke this morning regarding a potential Coca-Cola buyout of a prominent third wave roaster has since been denied by at least one such company: Intelligentsia Coffee And Tea’s Doug Zell, Stephen Morrissey and Kyle Glanville spoke exclusively to Sprudge in order to set the record straight.

“I have no idea where this rumor came from. It is completely unfounded,” says CEO Doug Zell. Stephen Morrissey adds, “We don’t even know anyone at Coca Cola.” Director of Strategy Kyle Glanville quipped: “Man, I was looking forward to doing quality control on all that Mexican Coke. Damn rumors got my hopes up.”

To be clear on our end: we neither implied nor directly stated that Intelligentsia was the company in question with regards to our report. These aspersions were disseminated on Twitter by individuals who have no association with Sprudge, editorial or otherwise.

Suffice it to say, we’ll be listening to whispers on the show room floor next week in Houston, and you can stay tuned to Sprudge.com for the all the latest as this story develops…
