The Good Food Awards have officially announced this year’s finalists for the coffee division. Several notable roasters have been left out of the finals, while a few exciting newcomers have made the cut. There’s so much controversy at this year’s GFA that Sprudge.com doesn’t really know where to start, but suffice it to say, check Twitter for the chatter, and it’s in everyone’s best interest to let the dust settle before we get into anything major. All we’ll say is, consider the following when looking at all those finalists and their selected coffees:

To qualify for entry, roasters must emphasize fairness and transparency from seed to cup, and certify that their coffee beans are grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides.

Story developing…stay tuned to Sprudge for more.

Mark Inman posted a strong discussion on his Facebook page about the lack of integrity amongst the coffee roasters submitting coffees and how they don’t meet the criteria.

Sorry, that could have been clearer. I’ve been in the food business for 30 years and When I see something like “ The Good Food Awards have officially announced..” WTF is the “Good Food Awards?”. First thing I thought of was that business award scam that went around a few years ago where they give you an award and then charge you for the placard.

I looked at the website. I see a company that has been around a year, a website for 9 mos, 344 Facebook members. Doesn’t really seem like something I should get too excited about.

The coffee field does seem pretty rich especially compared to the other categories. I like pickles and preserves as much as the next guy but c’mon, I can see all those awards I want at the local fair. At a glance just looks like another circle jerk award program.
