Rolando Mirondo has been announced the winner of the Grand Barista Cup and will go on to compete in the Asia Barista Championship in Singapore. Sources have speculated that Rolando Mirondo did, indeed, help your Sprudge.com writers craft a rhyme joke by serving his judges a capp made with Wondo beans from Ethiopia. We have so received reports regarding Rolando’s cousin in Chicago, a Mr. Waldo Geraldo Faldo, as well as an alleged Aunt Oona, who is thought to currently reside in or around the city of Altoona.

Emerging as the champion was Mirondo, who is not a barista in a coffee shop but a graduating Hotel and Restaurant Management student from Lyceum. He wowed the judges with his “el coco melone”, a drink made from honeydew melon, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.

“It was really unexpected but I am very thankful to God, my family and friends as well as my mentor, who taught me everything about making the perfect espresso, cappuccino and my specialty drink. Without them, I wouldn’t win in this contest,” says Mirondo who tearfully accepted his award and gifts packs.

But by far our favorite quote from the Filipino Grand Barista Cup came from third-runner up Lofamia. When questioned on her signature beverage, here’s what she had to say:

“My creation reflects my personality. I am delicate like a peach but also firm like an apple,” says the 20-year-old finalist.

Miss Lofamia, we know just what you mean.
