Here they are, another heaping helping of international Barista Champions, each one bound for the WBC in Vienna. We tracked ‘em all down on Facebook and gave them a good, thorough stalking. There’s even some competition video buried within the madness! Come stalk with us, won’t you? (Part 1 of our stalking tour is here.)

Continue.

Stalking.

Facebook… and go!

Meet Mr. Chan Chak Sum, who competed (and won!) in September for the 2011 Hong Kong Barista Championship. 18 Grams looks amazing, and you can learn more by checking out their charming English-language website. And their desserts? In house tiramisu? Yes, please.

Here we have certified Dutch hunk Coen Van Sprang, who will be representing The Netherlands in Vienna. We’ve featured Coen on Sprudge before, as he prepared for the 2010 Dutch Barista Championship (quite possibly the biggest party championship ever). Coen enjoys De jonge De JongLebkov & Sons, Has Bean CoffeeNuova SimonelliDesign MooiDrop Coffee,The Coffee Collective, and Coffee Bru, among others.

Very hunky and very Greek, Stefanos Domatiotis is a seasoned barista champion, with a competition history that reads like a Torah scroll. Mr. Domatiotis guy has been everywhere in the last 10 years (including Moscow last fall for this Sprudge feature), and he will continue his quest for domination this summer in Vienna. “I keep on learning and contributing whenever and wherever I can!” Stefanos competes for Taf, unquestionably the finest cafe and roaster in Athens - learn more here.

Carlos Figueroa is Chile’s very first national barista champion. He hails from the city of Valparaiso, on the coast of central Chile, and he competes representing Puro Cafe, a shop on Calle Edwards in the heart of Valparaiso, just blocks from the Pacific Ocean. Mr. Figueroa enjoys Scarface, The Godfather, Amber Urlacher PhotographyFanáticos del CaféTerraSurBanco de ChileRadio Bio BioJack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, and surely has several other interests as well.

He shoots, he scores: it’s Canadian barista champ Josh “Jive Talkin’” Hockin! Mr. Hockin represents Transcend Coffee, an importer and roaster in Edmonton, Alberta. Ja, das ist gut, nein?

Japanese barista champion Miki Suzuki captivated the audience at last year’s WBC in Bogota. She’ll return to the stage in Vienna, once again representing Maruyama Coffee. According to Facebook, Miki likes World Barista ChampionshipGraffeo Coffee Roasting Co.,Coffee ChemistryExclusive CoffeesCafé Au Lait®,KafferietCangkir CoffeeColombo Fine Beverage Co.,Kona Cloud Coffee Estates, and Best In Show Realty.

Austrian champ “Big Papa” Goran Huber enjoys some serious home field advantage at this year’s WBC, where he’ll compete representing his own company, Kaffee Institut Goran Huber. Herr Huber enjoys HORNIGTaf coffee, Innsbrucker Herbstmessechicco di caffefafga, INTERALPINPhilips Saeco – Nichts ist so gut wie das OriginalCoffee ChemistryedithsBUNA Espresso & SaftbarCaffé Lavazza Rattenberg, and SOCCER TEAM.

Watch Colombian champion Ever Bernal compete! He was trained by Fritz Storm, International Übertrainer.

Here’s the Salvadoran barista champion, Daniel Mendez! Daniel competes for Viva Espresso (read more on them via What’s Up, El Salvador), home to last year’s WBC winner Alejandro Mendez. Can Viva Espresso pull off an epic repeat?

Look at that! It’s United Arab Emirates champ Matt Toogood, whose name is second only to India’s Merlin Raj as our favorite in this year’s crop of WBC competitors. Mr. Toogood is a partner and director at Raw Coffee Company, home to “Dubai’s only premium 100% organic 100% fair trade fresh Arabica coffee.” Matt enjoys Calvin and Hobbes, the film Snatch, and old house music – so basically, he’s a man after our own hearts. Looking forward to your competition music, Mr. Toogood!

That’s it for now, but soon enough we’ll feel to urge to go a-stalkin’ once again. Ciao ’til then!
