Et Tu, Vita? Seattle Hipster Coffee Titan Charged With Assault and DUI
We here at Sprudge.com are never afraid to make fun of Caffé Vita. But today we’ll lay off, leave the barbs out of it, and report just the facts.
The Seattle City Attorney’s office has filed charges against Seattle business owner Michael McConnell—owner of Caffé Vita and an investor in the Crocodile in Belltown—after he allegedly rear-ended a stopped car with his Mercedes near the Seattle University campus. McConnell then allegedly attacked the driver of the other vehicle and fled the scene.
There are more sordid details, including a botched arrangement to pay off the victim by McConnell’s attorney and McConnell’s decision to flee the scene in favor of consuming overpriced thin-crust pizza. You can read all about it at The Stranger Slog.

This is all a bit boring but that guy looks kind of hot
Guess I thought coffee was the adjective modifying all four- news, rumor, innuendo and intrigue.
Go on with your bad selves boys– just check yourself before you wreck yourself: the man (allegedly) drinks with his lawyer.
I don’t know how this could be any more obviously coffee intrigue.
Of course this story belongs here. It’s in the mainstream news, will be read by people as a reflection on the industry (just look at some of the comments on slog), and has potentially large consequences for the seattle service scene, what with the possibility of McConnell loosing liquor licenses etc.
“personal tragedy”? “sordid tales”?
of course this story should be on sprudge. this is a factual account regarding a sleazy seattle business man and significant coffee personality who has been a gigantic douche bag his entire career and now it has finally (hopefully) caught up to him. it’s not like sprudge is reporting hearsay about strippers and coke at a frat party. get over yourself, smoove b, and just go drink some boring, smoove coffee at vita.
Really Sprudge?
Does this personal tragedy story qualify as “…coffee news, rumor, innuendo and intrigue”?
I don’t know the guy from Adam, but this seems in poor taste and not germane to this coffee site, but I’ll leave that up to you.
Should we expect to read the sordid tales of other coffee shop owners’ personal lives here soon? And I’m not talking about my homeboy-rista Carl Mundy.
