From a rough translation from El Salvador’s La Prensa Grafica newspaper :

Marcos Antonio Batres Bendix, dedicated to the export and marketing of coffee, is accused of the crime of aggravated fraud for an amount exceeding $300,000.

Mr. Batres represents the Finca Santa Teresa, whose Pacamara varietal finished 8th overall in El Salvador’s 2009 COE competition with an overall score of 89.34. There are a number of startling accusations coming out of the comments on La Prensa Grafica’s article, including one post that compares Marcos Antonio and his brother Carlos to “Batman y Robin”, and another that suggests Carlos and his wife Teresa are the Salvadorian coffee community’s “Bonnie and Clyde”.

    In the last couple of year’s Marcos Batres through the Cofinanzas de R. L. coffe bean export company has been selling this call organic coffe that is actually produce non-organic. The way he operates it’s buying regular coffe bean to any local grower, then he claims it’s been produce on one of hes rain forest certificate plantations, making large amoun’t of profits! simple words commited fraud not only to the local growers that haven’t been pay yet for the coffe beans that COFINANZAS allready sold to diferent countries such as Japan, Germany, USA,…

    Coffe Buyers Be Aware of the coffe bandits Marcos Batres & Teresa Giammatei de Batres they work under the COFINANZAS S.A. DE C.V. Company the sell the regular coffe with the name & price of the Organic Coffee at this point, Mr Marcos Batres still remains under the custody of the Police, Mrs Terese still free but on trail.
    Seem like the couple dind’t pay to one of the local coffe growers a large amount of coffe that COFINANZAS S.A. DE C.V. send to Japan,Germany and USA taged as Organic coffe! it’s a shame people like this has permits to export coffe and give such as bad image to the world as for EL SALVADOR and it’s Coffe!!!
    There is also another problem with Mr.&Mrs Batres the Police hold’s another large amount of coffe that was stolen and was under the COFINANZAS company name once again shame on them not only selling a fake product but also stolen!!
    Please people that hasbeen affected from them or has done business with COFINANZAS S.A. DE C.V. they are under the custodi of the Santa Ana, El Salvador Police Department(PNC)

    Marco Antonio Batres Bendix and his wife Teresa Giammattei de Batres, who we call the BONNIE AND CLYDE of the Salvadoran coffee, are the worst of the crop.
    The organic coffee is regular cheap non organic stuff, this couple of thieves should be banned from selling coffee anywhere in the world. Yo could end up with bad coffee or no coffee. This is the third time he has been in jail for swindling coffee growers and also has swindled U S and European coffee importers.
    Beware of Bonnie and Clyde they will take all your coffee or all your money. You choose…..

    The Salvadoran Coffee Association, on a halve page, paid space, published today their anger against Marco Batres Bendix and his wife Teresa Giammattei de Batres for the bad name they are giving to El Salvador Exporters.

    Well if she is gone, that tells you that she is guilty. Hope that she will never be able to come back again, and that she and her husband along with filthy family members end up in hell. It is too bad she did not get to find out how comfortable the Salvadorean jail cells are!!! No shame!!
