It’s been a few weeks since we held our first public cupping event, “Rwandalust“, and we’re still buzzing with how much fun that night turned out to be. More than 40 people joined us in Portland at the Stumptown Annex, to taste and chat about more than a dozen Rwandan coffees from roasters across the USA. It was an unmitigated hoot – so much so that we found ourselves wondering: “Maybe we should do something like this again?”

So we asked the experts, and as luck would have it, their answers were all the same: for an early April cupping party, consider highlighting Colombia. We’ve got a bit more experience with Colombian coffees – 1/2 of us attending a remarkable Slurparama expo last summer at Hacienda El Roble – but as soon as the suggestion was made, we started trying and focusing on all the Colombians we could find. Wow, these are some seriously tasty coffees right now – diverse and exciting, representing the fascinating and developed coffee growing culture from which they originate. So with no further ado…

Please, consider joining us on Friday, April 6th in Seattle, Washington, for an informal evening of cupping and conversation. We’re calling it “Colombiana“. The event begins at 6pm, and will be hosted by Milstead & Co. (770 North 34th Street), a specialty multi-roaster cafe in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood.

Colombiana is free, open to the public, and will showcase and celebrate fine Colombian coffees from roasters across North America, many of whom are being featured for the first time in the Pacific Northwest. The event is sponsored by La Marzocco USA, who will be helping by supplying a large amount of cupping supplies, as well as kicking in for a post-cupping keg of fine Seattle microbrew.ย Colombiana is also sponsored by Hotel Hotel (3515 Fremont Ave. N. ), a boutique hotel and hostel conveniently located just around the corner from Milstead & Co.ย  The folks at Hotel Hotel have have extended discount accommodations to friends traveling to Seattle for the event – please call 1.206.257.4543 for details, and mention the codeword “Sprudge” to your friendly concierge. We’ve stayed at Hotel Hotel before, and wholeheartedly recommend it – think Ace-esque modern design at reasonable prices, with a truly lovely location.

This is not a competition – it’s a celebration. Join us! Here’s a link to the Facebook event listing. We can’t wait, and we hope to see you there.
