I know, I know. Itโ€™s just barely Octoberโ€”the leaves have yet to change color, itโ€™s still hot outside, youโ€™ve havenโ€™t even decided on what you are going to be for Halloween yetโ€”but itโ€™s already time to start thinking about the holiday season. Or at least figuring out which coffee advent calendar you want this year.

We love a good advent calendar here at Sprudge. Weโ€™ve been covering them since 2016 and have been rounding up some of our favorites for the past four years now. And every year, without fail, Onyx Coffee Labโ€™s advent has been high on our list. Now in its sixth iteration, Onyx has increased production value of their advent calendar each year, from what was once basically just a cardboard mailer full of sample bags to the more recent versions, which can only be described as experiential.

This year proves to be no exception. The 2023 Onyx Coffee Lab Coffee Advent Calendar is a collection of 24 coffees collated in a festive holiday box, and itโ€™s available for pre-order now. Or maybe you can win one from your favorite coffee publication, who knows.

For those who have never had the joy of participating in an advent calendar, coffee or otherwise, it goes like this: everyday between December 1st and Christmas Eve, you partake in the assigned little goodie as denoted by the advent calendar. The goodies will typically progress each day, saving the best and most interesting for last. Different types of advents include chocolate, scotch, tea, and of course coffee. Itโ€™s just 24 days of treats leading up to Christmas Day, curated for you. And Onyxโ€™s are always something special.

Consisting mostly of single origin coffeesโ€”there are two blends in this yearโ€™s calendarโ€”Onyx takes you on a three-plus week coffee journey, two ounces (56.7g) of whole bean coffee at a time. It starts with their Framily blend and concludes with a Gesha from Finca Samboni in Huila, Colombia. In between, there are no fewer than 11 different countries represented this year, with coffee that have been wash processed, honeyed, natural, even anaerobically fermented. Itโ€™s a coffee smorgasbord.

For the packaging, Onyx has really outdone themselves this year. This latest box, a rectangular prism to be precise, opens in the middle to reveal an accordion-style rolodex of the 24 different coffees. Itโ€™s the sort of box you are going to want to keep even after the holidays have past, convinced you will find some future use for. Whether or not you actually do YMMV.

Currently on pre-order, the Onyx Coffee Advent Calendar is available for $175. To be at your home in time for December 1st, US-based orders need to be placed by November 24th and all international orders before November 1st.

Now, $175 is a lot of money to drop on coffee all at one time, regardless of the quality. But thereโ€™s another way. As part of the festivities surrounding the release of our new coffee cookbook But First, Coffee, weโ€™ve teamed up with Onyx Coffee Lab to giveaway one of their coffee advent calendars. In order to enter, you need to like our post on Instagram (seen above), make sure you are following both Sprudge and Onyx on the Gram, pre-order your very own copy of But First, Coffee, and email us proof.

Thatโ€™s it, itโ€™s that simple. A full list of rules can be found here, and for more information on the 2023 Coffee Advent Calendar, visit Onyx Coffee Labโ€™s official website.
