Get involved, Sprudge Wirers. An online auction is underway benefitting Literacy for Incarerated Teens (LIT), a New York City non-profit organization that supports library collections, education, and personal development programs across the state’s juvenile justice detention centers. And there are a ton of cool coffee packages.

Organized by Robert Galinsky – an artist, poet, and all-around coffee crazy – the LIT auction is raising funds for classroom resources (books, paper, pencils, etc), publishing costs, travel expenses, guest visits to correctional facilities by published authors, teacher fees, workshop snacks, and refreshments. But Galinsky notes that LIT is about more than just reading:

It helps kids build self esteem, look within, find out who they are, what they are capable of, and gives them the necessary tools to excel and break out of the cycle in which they find themselves stuck.

Auction packages include the chance to get coffee with a variety of musicians, actors, and writers, subscriptions to Roast Magazine, and even things as simples as gift cards to NYC coffee shops like Ninth Street Espresso and Joe Coffee. Or, if nothing strikes your fancy, you can just donate directly to LIT.

The auction will continue through August 16th, and many items have already sold. But there are still a handful of great auctions items left, so go check them out. Why not do something good with that morning cup of coffee?
